A liberal arts and humanities school isn’t bound by a statutory built-up-area norm, which puts the emphasis on getting the specialist rooms right language labs, psychology labs, archives rather than defaulting to generic classroom stacking. Why can’t the Language Lab and Psychology Lab be standard classrooms?
Both carry requirements a generic room can’t meet. The Language Lab needs acoustic separation for its booth-style stations, and the Psychology Lab needs an attached observation room with a one-way mirror.
What built-up area does a liberal arts school need?
No statutory norm applies, UGC general benchmarking governs. A typical BA (Hons)/MA programme for around 450 students runs to roughly 3,800 sqm gross built-up area.
What supports research-methods training in a BA/MA programme?
A dedicated Writing & Research Studio with group tables and reference shelving, plus a climate-controlled Archives/Special-Collections room for restricted-access materials.
